Parent Association and School Council (AGM) – Thursday, September 5 @ 6:00 pm in the school library learning commons. We encourage all parents to consider supporting our school and our students by engaging in our Parent Association and School Council. Your support would be greatly appreciated.
Dear Students and Parents:
Welcome to the 2019 – 2020 school year. I hope that you have had a restful and enjoyable summer, and are ready to return for an exciting year at École Leduc Junior High School (ÉLJHS). I look forward to an awesome year and the opportunity to work together with you. The staff at ÉLJHS look forward to another year of “Inspiring success for every student every day” and “Panther Pride” (our school values) in working with both students and parents. We are prepared for a fantastic school year!
ÉLJHS enjoys a rich history of academics, athletics, fine arts and cultural excellence that is a direct result of the partnership between the school staff and parents who provide a diversity of experiences for the students. Know that staff at ÉLJHS work very hard, every day, to create a positive and welcoming school climate for students. We want to make strong connections with students, offer them an engaging curriculum, and help them develop and grow into responsible, respectful and ethical citizens.
The first day of school will be Tuesday, September 3, 2019. Students should arrive at school no later than 8:20 a.m. Designated student doors will open at 8 am (all year), but not before. Each grade level has its own set of doors to enter and exit for the school year. Due to our large number of students, this allows for safety when entering and exiting the building. The grade 7’s will use the main doors of the school (south-east side), the grade 8’s will use the north-east doors, and the grade 9’s will use the north-west doors to the school.
Our annual Meet the Teacher Night/BBQ will be held on Thursday, September 5, 2019, from 5-7 pm. This a great opportunity to meet the school staff! Please come with your child to meet all of their teachers and take a tour of the school. The evening will also include the Parent Association and School Council Annual General Meeting @ 6:00 pm in the school staff room. This is a great opportunity to get involved in your child’s junior high journey.
Our school website (eljhs.blackgold.ca) is a great resource, as well as our Facebook page and Twitter feed, which provides information on special events, sports schedules, and classroom activities and events in and around our school. For your reference, I have included a link to our bell schedule that will be very important for you to make note of, as well you may find helpful the school handbook webpage. The handbook page provides important information about our school’s philosophy, procedures, policies, curriculum, and schedules. It is a guide to the way we operate as a school. Also included in the handbook are behavioural expectations and guidelines for students, often the most referred to pages. The handbook contains information that will answer most questions that you will have regarding ÉLJHS.
School fees are now available to be paid online through the PowerSchool Parent Portal. To pay fees online go to www.blackgold.ca under “online payments.” If you have any questions regarding fees, please call the school at (780) 986-2184 or bring your questions to the office on the first day.
At ELJHS, we value strong partnerships with parents, as we believe it is essential to student success. We host two parent conference nights scheduled during the school year which are good opportunities to meet with school staff to discuss student progress. I would like to remind parents that your child needs positive support through working with school staff as a team (Parent Responsibilities and Influence). We encourage open communication with school administration and individual teaching staff through e-mail or via telephone.
We look forward to working with you and your child during the upcoming school year. Please feel free to contact me at any time if you have questions or concerns or praises. Help me to develop a positive working relationship between the home and school to provide your child with the best opportunity to be a successful student at École Leduc Junior High School. Thanks for your support.
Mr. S. Flanagan, M.Ed.
