Welcome to the 2016-17 School Year!
ÉLJHS Welcome Letter
Dear Parents and Students:
Welcome to the 2016 – 2017 school year. Hopefully, you had a restful and enjoyable summer and are ready to return to another exciting year (or first year) at École Leduc Junior High School (ÉLJHS). I look forward to an awesome year and the opportunity to work together with you. The staff at École Leduc Junior High School looks forward to another year of “Inspiring success for every student every day” and “Panther Pride” (our school vision) in working with both students and parents. We are prepared for a fantastic school year!
École Leduc Junior High School enjoys a rich history of academic, athletic, fine arts and cultural excellence that is a direct result of the partnership between the school staff and parents who provide a diversity of experiences for the students. Know that staff at ÉLJHS work very hard, everyday, to create a positive and welcoming school climate for students. We want to make strong connections with students, offer them an engaging curriculum, and help them develop and grow into responsible, respectful and ethical citizens. Speaking of our staff…this year we welcome back Mrs. Koopmans and welcome new-comers Ms. Denschikoff, Mrs. Kindrat, M. Lepage, and Mr. Shipley.
The first day of school will be Thursday, September 1, 2016. Students should arrive at school no later than 8:20 a.m. Designated student doors will open at 8 am (all year), but not before. Each grade level has their own set of doors to enter and exit for the school year. Due to our large number of students this allows for safety when entering and exiting the building. The grade 7’s will use the main doors of the school (south-east side), the grade 8’s will use the north-east doors, and the grade 9’s will use the north-west doors to the school.
Your child will be bringing several forms home that must be filled out: the student information verification sheet, consent forms, the admirable use form, among many other forms. All of these forms must be returned to school as quickly as possible. Please! Also school fees are now available to be paid online through the PowerSchool Parent Portal. To pay fees online go to www.blackgold.ca under “online payments.” If you have any questions regarding fees, please call the school at (780) 986-2184 or bring your questions to the office on the first day.
The parent-student handbook provides important information about our school’s philosophy, procedures, policies, curriculum, and schedules. It is a guide to the way we operate as a school. Also included in the handbook are behavioral expectations and guidelines for students, often the most referred to pages in the book. The handbook contains information that will answer most questions that you will have concerning ÉLJHS (the handbook is also on our school’s webpage).
Consistent and clear communication with parents is essential to student success at ÉLJHS. Our school website (eljhs.blackgold.ca), as well as our Facebook page and Twitter feed, informs parents of special events, sports schedules, and classroom activities and events in and around our school. Parents may also communicate with the school and individual staff through e-mail or on the telephone. We will kick off the year with our Meet the Teacher Night on Thursday, September 1, 2016 from 5-7 pm. Please bring your child and meet all of their teachers and take a tour of the school. Also, we will have parent conferences scheduled during the school year. These are great opportunities to become more involved in your child’s education. We encourage you to volunteer in the school as well.
We look forward to working with you and your child during the upcoming school year. Please feel free to contact me at any time if you have questions or concerns or praises. Help me to develop a positive working relationship between the home and school to provide your child with the best opportunity to be a successful student at École Leduc Junior High School. Thanks for your support.
Mr. Sean Flanagan, M.Ed.
